Connecting a Custom Domain

Use your own domain name with your Framekit site

Connecting a Custom Domain

A custom domain gives your site a professional, branded web address like www.yourbusiness.com. Here's how to connect one.

Prerequisites

Before connecting a custom domain:

  • Purchase a domain from a domain registrar (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains)
  • Publish your site to your Framekit subdomain first
  • Upgrade your plan if required (custom domains may require a paid plan)
  • Step-by-Step Setup

    1. Add Your Domain in Framekit

  • Go to Settings > Domains
  • Find the Custom Domain section
  • Enter your domain name (e.g., yourbusiness.com or www.yourbusiness.com)
  • Click "Add Domain"
  • 2. Get Your DNS Records

After adding your domain, Framekit will provide you with DNS records to configure. You'll typically see:

    • A Record: Points your domain to our servers
    • The IP address to use will be displayed in the settings

    3. Configure DNS at Your Registrar

Log in to your domain registrar and update your DNS settings. See our DNS Configuration Guide for detailed instructions.

    4. Verify Connection

    Once DNS is configured:

  • Return to Settings > Domains in Framekit
  • Click "Check Connection"
  • Wait for verification (can take up to 48 hours for DNS to propagate)
  • Domain Status Indicators

    • Connected: DNS is properly configured
    • SSL Active: Your site has a secure HTTPS connection
    • Live: Your domain is fully working

    Common Issues

    Domain Not Connecting

    • DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to propagate
    • Double-check your DNS records for typos
    • Ensure you've removed any conflicting records

    SSL Certificate Issues

    • SSL certificates are automatically provisioned
    • If SSL isn't working after 24 hours, contact support
